LA PENÍNSULA DE LA MAGDALENA

 

The peninsula of Magdalena has a wonderful natural park, drawn on the Cantabrian Sea with steep cliffs of jagged rocks.

 

It is full of trees and vegetation. The blue water and green land stained thousand hues this space of 24.5 hectares.

Is the famous marine park cupcake and a mini-zoo where, for years, living several copies of penguins, seals and sea lions.

HISTORY OF  LA MAGDALENA

 

The peninsula of Magdalena also called royal palace of La Magdalena. It was a present from the city of Santander King Alfonso XIII , who used it as a summer residence between 1912 and 1929. Today the peninsula is a public park open during the day .

The peninsula was the most important strategic point of Santander , as controlled access to the Bay of Santander and therefore the city. Proof of this is the presence of post- Roman remains at I. century Also , due to its military importance , long belonged to the military.

In her are the Playa de La Magdalena (closest to the beach Hazards ) and Bikini Beach , the monument to Felix Rodriguez de la Fuente - three ships belonging to the Navy Museum - used by the Cantabrian mariner Vital Alsar to commemorate the journey of Francisco de Orellana in the Pacific Ocean and a small free zoo where you can see ducks, penguins and seals.

Formerly the peninsula lacked trees, but over at the hands of Alfonso XIII, this did repopulate the maritime pine.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The peninsula of Magdalena has a "treasure" of biodiversity, with 870 different species inhabit the much-used over a million visitors a year, as reduced space of 250,000 square meters.

The biological diversity to be found, with 336 different species of vegetation.
